Popular authors with new books for April

This month has seen the arrival of several new books by popular authors:

Check out Anita Shreve's new novel, Body Surfing. Sydney "answers the ad of a couple seeking a tutor for their teenage daughter and ends up spending the summer on the stunning New Hampshire coast". Fans of Shreve's earlier novels, which include Fortune's Rocks, The Pilot's Wife, The Weight of Water, and A Wedding in December, will certainly want to give this one a try.

Amanda Quick, a pseudonym for writer Jayne Ann Krentz, has just released The River Knows, a "twist-filled tale of deceptions and dark secrets amid the luxurious settings of late Victorian London."

Debbie Macomber returns to everyone's favorite yarn shop this month, with her new novel, Back on Blossom Street. Those who enjoyed The Shop on Blossom Street, A Good Yarn, and Susannah's Garden won't want to miss this latest installment.

Feeling mysterious? David Baldacci has just released his new one, titled Simple Genius. And Carole Nelson Douglas takes a cue from a Tennessee Williams title with her new novel, Cat in a Red Hot Rage.

Yes, it's National Library Workers Day! Seems like the perfect opportunity for me to thank the great staff we have at all three of our libraries. I am reminded daily -- either by other patrons or by my own observations -- what caring, concerned, and talented people work at our libraries. Thank you for all you do for the citizens of Abbeville County.

And thanks, too, to our great patrons -- you are a big part of why we love our jobs!

Here's a smile for this rainy day: I just got a fun email from a patron. Her son was in the Donalds library yesterday. Later in the day, he mentioned that he wanted to check out a video he'd seen -- the next time they were in the "McDonald's Library"!

Lots of libraries are installing cafes -- maybe we should go for offering fries and Big Macs??

Place a hold -- from home!

Do you know how to place a hold on an item from your computer? It's easy --

1. Search for the book (or video or audio)

2. If it's checked out from your branch, click on the icon that says "Place Hold." You'll find it on the top of the screen on the far right side.

3. On the next screen, enter your card number (found on the back of your blue library card) and your pin number. Click "submit request."

4. A confirmation screen will appear, and library staff will call you when your item is in!

If you don't have a PIN, just call us at 459-4009 -- we can set one up for you in about 30 seconds!
